engine cut in and out at 4000 rpms in park

I just bought a 1994 se, he said that it would just quit at any givin time and that it would start back up, he had his garage pu a fuel pump in still the same. anyway when I got it home I was messing with it and notice a couple of things, one is that the radio stays on until you open the door, is this normal? And also does anyone have any Ideas about why it would die and then start back up? and when I was sitting in it I slowly brought the rpms up to the 4000 mark and when it got there it cut off and then would go up and down if I held it there, is this normal? I was in park when I was doing it.

Thanks

Mike

The radio is under Retained Accessory Power when the key is turned off (if you will try, the windows should work also)...they will shut off when they time out or the door is opened.
On the cutting off problem there are many things that can cause the problem, its a matter of diagnosing the problem by getting it to happen and see what is loss when the problem occurs (fuel or spark)
To name a few componants that will cause a stall condition..crank sensor, module,PCM, fuel pump, various intermittant sensors......
As far as the engine cutting back at 4000 rpm...thats to keep the engine from self destructing when people do stupid stuff like rev the engine to its upper limits in park It is a fuel cut off designed into the PCM calibrations..it will also occur if you drive the car fast enough to hit the limit in gear.....don't do that either!
