Thumbs up Civic HX

I've just decided that i'm done with doing "exterior mods" and i want to start on making more power. I have a 98 Civic HX, D16Y5 SOHC VTEC-E, with intake and exhaust, and it kinda sucks. I know all of you are going to say swap it with a b16 or b18 or something, but the problem is, i live in muskegon, michigan and there is no import scene here. My chances of finding an engine are very slim. It would be cool to slap a turbo on, but i heard you can't turbo an hx, is this true? I know the catalytic converter is inside the stock manifold, but if i were to get a header (with secondary o2 sensor) and have another section welded on to meet my catback, would that work? Also, would some of the other stuff for an EX work for my car? (ie fuel rail, pressure regulator, intake manifold, tb, etc). Anyone with any suggestions would help. Thanks.

Re: Civic HX

Hello, I own a 1997 Civic HX. I had a Greddy Turbo Kit on this car. It has been the only modification that has made a huge impact on my car.
You can add a tubo to an HX. The top O2 Sensor is mounted on the (Turbo's) exhaust manifold, and the secondary sensor was modifided to the down pipe. The rest of the car was basicly stock. The car gained an extra 50 HP @ 5 psi. I do not recomend going any higher than 5 psi. if you are not going to do any additional mods to the car. You have to upgrade the fuel system to be able to bost any higher, and not more than 7 psi., trust me I know from experience. I cracked two pistons, because I got greedy. I changed the pistons to JE low compression, and changed the fuel injectors. I ran the car at 10 psi. and it made about 210 hp. It moved good, but I just spent over 3 grand to barley pass a honda prelude. I was upset, and got greedy again. I boosted the car to 15 psi. and was pushing 240+ hp. The car now was moving fast, but the consequences were fatal. I melted the pistons and bent the head. So that was the end of the speed machine. I rebuilt the engine and sold the turbo Kit.
