Exclamation Stereo code problem

Hi,
This is my first time in the forum. I'm a '96 Accord owner in the Army stationed in Belgium. I ran into a problem with the check engine light that these mechanics here can't fix. It turned out to be an emissions issue that doesn't affect driving just that the car is exceeding the emissions standards. Anyway, one solution before they sorted this out was to disconnect the battery to see if the check engine light would go away which it didn't.
It was then that I realized the Honda cards with my stereo code on it was packed away with the remainder of my belongings in storage in the States. I called the Honda dealer in Columbia, SC where I bought the car for the code but they couldn't help me since they deleted their records if you haven't been to the dealership in the past two years. They told me to go to any dealer and they can turn the stereo back on.
The dealer here in Belgium says he can't do it. Is there any other option I have to get this thing turned back on other than waiting until I return to the States in 2.5 years?

Needing some tunes!!!

Re: Stereo code problem

Welcome to AF!

You might be lucky if a smart tech. orginally did the PDI on your car. Sometimes you may be able to find the serial # & radio code on a tiny white sticker located in the glove box or center console.

If not then you or someone must remove the radio, its pretty simple. On the bottom of the radio there is a serial # that you will need. Call a Honda dealer in the states & speak to a Service Manager. Tell the Srvc. Manager your situation and ask them to run a VIN stat(or I forget the name of the search) but they can run your VIN & radio serial # to come up with a code. If your radio was ever changed it may not be the correct code.

When your radio says code error, that means its locked & not even to right code will make it work. To fix this you must remove the Hazard fuse from the under-hood fuse box for 15 seconds & then enter the correct code.

You could even PM me your serial# & VIN info & i could try to get the correct code.

Next time you need to reset the check engine light pull the hazard fuse instead of disconnecting battery.
