Who wants an RB26DETT in thier 240 anyhow.
Man... first things first.
Do your homework. It seems everyone has names and numbers in thier head but no realistic goals or the right know how about the swaps they want. Reasons to not aim for an RB26DETT: -The reason RB26DETTs dont drop easily is cause their oil pan is designed to also serve as the front half of the front differential casing. -ussually buying clips is the most efficient way of getting everything you need for a swap. With all the parts you wont be able to use in an car with an RD26, You'll have to buy one RB26 clip AND an RB25 clip, for the trans, shift linkage, crossmember, and other stuff. -The RB26 has more piping to rework.. lots of custom stuff... Unless you have the 10K+ to just pull out of your pocket and fork over to a shop and don't mind loosing your car for a few months, you're set. solutions for those dedicated to an RB26DETT: -Buy a RB25DET oil pan to replace the 26's differential casing/oil pan -Source JUST a RB26DETT engine... -Use an RB25DET clip with a blown motor for the tranny, crossmember and other misc parts. SUPER SMART EASY ALTERNATIVES (most likely for the uninformed): -DO AN RB25DET SWAP INSTEAD. -All you need is the RWD RB25DET clip.. everything you need is included. -Nearly as good as the 26, it has like 260HP -the only custom parts NEEDEDis possibly the downpipe, and driveshaft. -The only highly reccomended part for the COMPLETE swap would be a custom crossmember. -Its MUCH CHEAPER, ITS NEARLY JUST AS GOOD |

the only reasong I see a RB as a viable option in a S chassis car is this.......
if you have a ton of money and want a 1000hp drag car with some big ass meats on it. if you have a ton of money and want 280hp stock that is reliable everyday driver..... if you have a ton of money and just have to have the RB26 lol.......bandwagon jumpas..... |

why get an RB, period?
unless your a drag fag, it really doesn't make sense. -its heavier, throwing off the nearly perfect weight balence of the car -unless you're planning on making over 500hp, you can do it with one of the 4 cylinders -its a difficult swap -there was never an RB series engine in the states, so sourcing parts will be difficult and expensive -RBs were never meant to go into the s-chassis i know there are more reasons....can't think right now don't flame me on this, if you think differently that's great. i'm just posting my opinion. if you want to post yours, don't attack mine. |

More and more support for the RB is coming to the US with the growing popularity of "Import Tuning" so parts are becoming easier and cheaper to come across. Check out Night7's site. He did the RB25 swap and said it actually improved the weight balance of the car -- though the RB26 is heavier, maybe it might bring the scale even closer to 50/50? If not, it should probably just tip it a slight bit, still giving you a pretty balanced car.
Getting 400+hp on the SR, KA, or CA is obviously cheaper, but in the long run, isn't as dependable as the RB-series (like what was said by SR20 on the reliable daily driver... you could probably up it quite a bit more on stock internals without running into problems...) Theres plenty of ups AND downs to this (and other) swaps. The main thing is the $$$. And since it costs waaaaay more to import a full Skyline to the US, the engine alone is worth its weight in gold. I personally wouldn't mind saving up for this --no matter how long it takes-- Just my opinion... Think about all the new cars out there. I was quoted around 12k for a full RB26 swap by McKinney Motorsports (throw in a little more for suspension and an LSD and I think you're set)... whereas the STI and other cars in its class run around 30k at the least. And on that, I wonder if S13GTR ever sold his RB26 (TWIN TURBO) S13 Fastback... Maybe he could fill us in better on why he chose that setup. :P |

If I had the extra money then I would get an RB26...right now I'm considering an RB25 swap if I do a swap at all. I would prefer an RB26, but the difference is a few thousand and they are both capable of producing more hp than I'll need since my car will be used only on the streets.

540 for the ka24 and 720 for the rb25
quite a difference, but much of that difference is in the tranny...so the weight distribution isnt affected much...the only real thing going against rb25 compared to ka-t, ca, and sr is that it adds quite a bit of weight...other than that and price the rb25 kicks ass

The RB25 and 26 are a little bit heavier. But it being "worth it" is an understatement. It's the next best thing to having a Skyline...but even better, its in a 240. We all love the 240s/180s, don't we?
BTW, one line drifter.. I'm oen of the guys who wants a 280HP daily driver .. rip supras on the way to school and work.

IO wont flame you but do you have a RB powered 240?? Do you know the exact weight of the engine or have you looked for parts?? If not, that isnt opinion. That is ignorance. More difficult swap....bwahahahahahaha. The only thing different on the RB25 is the driveshaft issue. Now that the RB26 can be mounted with both turbos, the RB26 just has driveshaft issues. My RB20 slid right in. Tranny and all. Wirng was 8 steps. Everything works. And parts can be ordered on the internet. And more shops are starting to stock RB parts. The more RB users there are, the more parts will be stocked. The same arguement is used on teh KA. Peopel swap bnecause of parts availability on teh KA. Well shit, who wants to lose money making/sto9cking parts for a engien no one tunes??? The more users there are, the more shops will make. |

right on man, and props for your swap. I bet its nice, eh?
But this topic is getting stupid, being that people can't keep it straight on the internet. I think it's time to close this thread, since people are getting all whacked out over it and have started namecalling. So for the sake of the people who's parents raised them in a closet with nothing to cope or deal with, I ask its locked. |
