Some say that it was because they weren't selling enough. On the contrary, they couldn't keep them on the showroom floor. It really had to do with the then current 4th Gens not meeting 2004 safety standards, and GM not wanting to take the effort to redesign the car...

I think it all goes back to money. If they were making money off the car, they would redesign it.
And my car got excellent safety ratings. I just looked at them 2 days ago. I don't think it's that. Who isn't greedy besides Monks, Nuns, and Bob who lives down the road? |

Yeah, it did get good safety ratings. The cars weren't gonna meet the crash safety standards set forth in 2004. There were changes in the standards, and the F-bodies didn't make them...

Re: why did they kill off the trans am???
It has nothing to do with the physical size of the car, it has to do with how the car reacts to different crash tests, and it didn't pass those new standards...

The plant in Quebec is gonzo - they tried to get GM to make other cars there but it didn't fly. GM wanted to get out of that plant/Province from almost the beginning.
In terms of not wanting to redesign the F-Bodies, it would have seemed like the ideal time regardless of looming safety concerns - a Fifth Gen in 2003 sounds about right after a 10 year run with the Fourth Gen, no? There are a lot more issues behind the current F-Body Hiadus than most people think. |
