Re: any INSPECTION sticker EXPERTS here ? HAWAII sticker question .

In Hawaii, all cars have to get an annual safety inspection, which costs $14.95. Your car cannot be registered or driven in the state without one. All basic functions (turn signals, headlights, no leaking fluids, pedal travel, brakes, etc.) are tested at an approved testing center (usually an approved gas station). If your car passes (and everything must pass), you get the sticker shown, which MUST be placed on your rear bumper.

The "5" refers to the month the sticker expires, in this case May (as shown by 5/31 on the lower part of the sticker). Behind the "5" is a design to make the sticker difficult to copy. The other sticker refers to the year. Every year is a different color; in this case, this is the sticker for the year 2000. You can see the "00" in the lower left corner. The actual sticker # is in the lower right corner. Therefore, this car was inspected in May 1999 and is legally able to be driven in Hawaii until May 2000.

There is no way to get a repo, but you don't need it unless you live in Hawaii. And if you do, you could just get a new one (for another $15 of course).

Hey Randy,

I just registered on here just to tell you that you can get a replica inspection sticker for restoration purposes at this web site, make sure you tell them "bumper" sticker when ordering too, the number is for the expiration month, it was never a window sticker but it can be made that way too:

They make replicas at this site for all states, tho not meant as legal, just for restorations here on the mainland, since you probably still have to have your car inspected there and don't need a replica.
