Question Intake Manifold Swap Question

I'm looking to upgrade the intake manifold on my 99 DX, and I was looking at the OBX manifold or the Skunk2 manifold, the throttle body is on the left side of the manifold, where the TB on the DX manifold is right on top. All the pics I've seen of intake manifolds offered for the SOHC engine have the TB on the left. Will these manifolds work with the DX engine? Will I have to get a new TB and throttle cable, or will the original ones work with the new manifold? Does anyone have any other suggestions for a manifold choice?

If anyone has seen or done this install, I'd love the help, thanks!

Pretty much, unless you upgrade the cams, get some polishing, new throttle body, etc.. to take advantage of the new flow, but they also make power higher in the rpm range, usually at the sacrifice of some low end power since they shift the powerband up.

I don't have the money for a swap right now, hopefully next summer. I was also thinking of swapping a D16Y8 head onto my DX engine, but none of the junkyards around here seem to have any wrecked EX's. I just thought this would be a decent upgrade, but if its only gonna give me 4 more HP, and I'll lose low end, then screw it. I can wait for the swap.

Re: Intake Manifold Swap Question

You could find an EX head anywhere from free to a few hundred bucks, and will give you 21 hp. Not too shabby, but still not too fast. I was going to do that until I bought nitrous... two blown engines later, I bought da B. Now I'm happier than any parts for a sohc could have provided, even though I'm down $150/mo for the loan..

Re: Re: Intake Manifold Swap Question

I think I may have to put everything car-related on hold for a while. Just found out my fiance and I are going to have our second child sometime next june. Kinda unplanned, but we were gonna have it by the end of next year anyway so the age difference between the two kids wasn't huge, 2 years isn't bad. And the good thing is my tax return should be fucking huge. I let her claim our son last year because if she didn't, she would have had to pay in, but if I had claimed him, it would have been close to a $6k return. I think thats more than enough to get a good swap, but my next return will go towards credit cards..... DAMN YOU VISA!!!!
