Stereo Removal 1997 Protege
The stereo in my 1997 is deceased and I would like to replace it. However I have removed everything but the dash and still can't figure out hove to get the thing out. Anyone know how to pull one of these units?
Thanks |

You have to remove the plastic frame from around the center console, it goes around everything from the ash try right to the top under the vents. You must be carfull to remove all screws, ashtray, and lighter outlet before popping this off, to pop this off I used a simple butter knife, it was real simple.
Then you will see 2 small round holes on each side of the deck, you need you push something into all 4 holes to release the locks, then just pull the deck out, I can't remember what I used to pull out mine, sorry. The holes are as big around as the inside part of a bick pen. |

Re: Stereo Removal 1997 Protege
In my 95 protege its really easy to take out the stereo. There's 2 small plastric covers that you need to take of on both sides of the stereo that are covering the little holes on both sides.
You can buy this little tool thing to stick into those holes and then the stereo pops out but i bet you could use a metal coat hanger or something. |

Re: Re: Stereo Removal 1997 Protege
I am attempting to remove the stock stereo from my '95 protege, where are the (2) plastic covers you are referring to? are they right beside the stereo or down along the side? Thanks.
