Holy smokes never tried this before but shit! All the thousands of websites I've visited said that the neon would do 10.8 or something like that but for the first time today I clocked myself at 8.1. The only MOD I have is a K&N filter. Is this possible? Does anyone else experience the same thing? Degreased my engine and armor alled the rubber and plastic EVERYWHERE! Also changed tranny fluid and flushed it. You should see my garage, oil everywhere. Hey this was my first time. Everything went OK except for the fact that reverse gear is harder to get into. How can this happen with only an oil change?

7.6 is damn good. I wonder what will happen when I do my exhaust and also the intake plus the other goodies. Hmmmm.

ok ladies....there are cars that run 7.6 in a quarter mile and you are happy getting to sixty in that time. If you are going to waste money on making a race car, try buying a race car and not a neon.

Re: What the hell!! Stock SOHC, Neon SE, Automatic=0-60 in 8.1??
Never really clocked it, but I know my Neon pulls hard. A few years back I had a 67 Nova with a 406 and a 4-speed...that thing kicked really hard. But here I am with a stock 2000 Neon (auto) and it's like old times...well kinda, but not really
. I have "smoked" a bunch of unsuspecting souped-up Honda Civics, and even a few Accords...that in itself says a lot. At one time I had a Flowmaster muffler on it, 3 inch inlet, two 2 and 1/2 inch outlets (the type they use on Camaros/Firebirds), and that really loosened up some horsepower (actually made the car sound like it had a little V8). If you go to Yahoo, and click on clubs, do a search on Dodge or Plymouth Neons. There's a couple of them that are really informative...and they supposedly got some fast Neons too. |

Dearest Redneon95,
In regards to your reply I would like to state that nowhere in this thread was race car mentioned. Secondly 7.6 is fast for an inexpensive car like the Neon, especially since it smokes cars of greater value stock! Thirdly you can take a long walk off a short bridge and screw yourself!! Have yourself a very nice day. |

Dang a 7.6! I know of "sportscars" that wont do that! Cudoes dudes, and redneon if you want to compare a neon to a dragster that has to run on nitro methane you need help.

DAMN STRAIGHT!!!!! I have a 2000 auto. neon am a serious neon enthusiast. i havent ever clocked myself before but as soon as i do ill let ya know. this might sound really stupid, but would premium fuel rather than regular make a noticable difference or is it just my imagination because i used premium the other day and i could swear i felt a difference in the way it accelerated.

premium will not affect your performance at all. It is kind of like when I change my oil, wash my car or air up my tires I could swear it runs better and has more power but of course it doesn't. Your factory chip is designed to handle 87 octane and anything more than that is just money out of your pocket for something you don't need. The SRT-4 and the RT require premium gasoline because of the chip but if you put anything less in it the computer will change to compensate for the lower grade fuel making it run like dog dong!
Trust me bud you'll save a few cents on regular and it runs the same unless where you live has crummy gasoline? |

Oh I hate to break this to you but you actualy loose a few hp at top end running 93 octane, because since your ignition is set to use 87 it sparkes too late to fully burn the higher grade fuel, you can fix this and add a few ponies by advancing your spark a few degrees and then you really will get more power out of it, at leased in the higher RPMs. I saw a test on this once and an integra lost almost 6hp when they put 93 in it. They advanced the spark a few degrees and got some more power on top end. But is it worth the cost? |
