Fire!!! Now car won't start...

Being as ignorant as I am I decided to relocate the battery by splicing the positive battery cable. Now I believe that the heat generated at the connection here caused the tape to melt off and the exposed section of the cable may have touched a ground and created sparks, or maybe the tape ignited... (trust me, I understand the mistake and have definitely learned from it, please to hurt me...)

Anyway, I was on the expressway and all of the sudden the car just shut off, then back on, then off. It repeated this a few times and then died for good. I was thinking that I may have been one of the drivebelts and the alternator wasn't generating any power (I had just uninstalled my a/c). I pulled of to the side of the expressway and popped the hood and most of the area underneath the air intake was on fire. It was a short blaze, nothing huge.

I was desparate to get the fire out, so I just stuck my foot into the engine bay and smothered most of the fire, then I used my hoodie that my grandmother gave to me as a gift to smother the rest of the fire. After later inspection, the only thing that looked damaged was the air intake hose (temporarily repaired to check for other problems), two vacuum hoses (replaced), some sort of wire connection for, I think, the seleniod (it looked fine, so I taped it up), and a few groups of wires were released from their giant binding (used some electrical tape; it took a lot of tape for all those wires). Now the engine will turn over when I try to start it, but will not start up. I am pretty positive it isn't the fuel pump because I still hear the hissing when I turn the car to "on". I've already posted this on NissanForums, but am not receiving any solutions... Please help!

this should be fun for you. you are going to need to take apart all of the wires that got burnt and make sure that they are still conected to what ever they go too. you can use a multimeter to check continuity before the burt spot and after. there should be little to no resistance. then you can check all of the fuses. if they are all good then the fun starts. you will have to find out where the wires go. were they for the injectors? distributor? or something else. so once you know where the wires go to, you will have to check to make sure that the component is still working. Also you might want to check the ecu to make sure that didnt fry also. In short you will just have to check EVERYTHING that had to do with the wires that caught on fire.
GOOD LUCK CAUSE YOU ARE GOING TO NEED IT.

Re: Fire!!! Now car won't start...

screw it, I'm just going to get a whole new wiring harness. If that doesn't fix it I'll make sure that there wasn't a freak coincodence and the timing chain broke. I also have to replace the metal pipe running from the exhaust to the EGR 'cause I'm losing vacuum... Then I'll start checking the components that I know nothing about how to fix...
