A Few Questions...
Okay, I just bought my car about two weeks ago, and its a manual. The only other vehicles I've ever driven have been automatics. Since I'm finally getting smooth at shifting and everything, I've been curious about racing with a manual. First of all, is it good to rev it up to 4 or 5 grand, let go of the clutch (while it's in first gear), and floor it? Or is it best to not rev for a launch? And after the launch, is it best to redline every gear, or does that depend on the car you drive? I don't know if it changes anything, but my car is rear wheel drive.
I know some of these questions are stupid newbie questions, but none of my friends like racing too much, and the few that do, either don't know the answers, or I don't trust their answers. Does "dumping the clutch" mean revving to really high rpm's then letting go of the clutch really fast? Sorry these questions are kind of dumb, but I have to get a lot of my information by bits and pieces from different things I hear, so I know a lot about some stuff and very little about other things. Anyway, thanks in advance. Oh, some more questions I thought of. How come you can't have a CAI with a turbo? And does I/H/E mean intake/headers/exhaust?

if you are getting alot of wheel spin from launching at 4k-5k rpms then i would try to bring down the rpms to maybe 3k and try that. you really shouldnt get to the redline becuase right before your redline you start to lost power try like 200-400 before redline you should hear it in the motor. duming the clutch is most of the time used when people are talking about spinning tires(burning rubber). you cant have a cold air intake with turbo because theres a tube that comes from the intercooler that goes to the thottlebody. yes i/h/e/means intake/headers/exhaust hope this help you out a little

Should I get any wheel spin at all? What exactly is a good launch and what is a bad launch?

its not uncommon to get a little wheel spin. a good launch would be when the light turns green you jump off the line with little or no wheel spin and your engine doesnt bog down

Yeah, really the best way to figure out what to launch at is to just experiment. Try it at every couple hundred rpms like he said and eventually youll find something that works.

Well, once you've burned up your clutch and worn your tires down to nothing. And you've had to pay to replace them... you'll learn real quick how to launch good.
