Angry 2000 Celica GTS needs new engine

We bought a used 2000 Celica GTS from a local girl. Have had the car for about 6 months and have put 10,000 miles on it. We now have 51,000 miles on the car. Went to drive it the other day and the "check engine" and the oil light came on. Had it towed it to the local Toyota dealership. They looked at it and said we need a new engine and they will not cover it under the warrenty. All Toyota's have a 60,000 mile powertran warrenty. The engine should be covered under this warrenty. They said they will not cover it cause the RPM ran to high. In other words we were going to fast is a higher gear and accidently downshifted to 2nd gear leaving the RPM's running to high and blew up the engine. It will cost $7,700 to replace the engine. We have contacted the customer relations rep at the dealership and also the customer service rep at the corporate office a couple of times to no avail. They are now referring it to the regional rep.I can't believe that Toyota is not standing behind this car. Any help or advice as what to do next so we can get Toyota to honor their warranty would be appreciated.

You know it may not be Toyota itself...it may be the dealer you went to. You might have to go to a different dealer who might be willing to help you...but ultimately call Toyota themselves. They have a 1-800 number and go straight to the horses mouth. That's the only thing I can reccomend, that and call other dealers and explain what happened and see if they'll replace it under warranty.

I did go directly to the "horses mouth". I called the corporate 800 customer service number and talked to a couple of reps. They are now sending my "case" to the regional rep. I have not heard anything yet. I am waiting for their reply. Can't wait to see what they have to say.

You know I should've asked this....did you have it in 4th, 5th or 6th gear spinning the engine high and accidentally shift into 2nd? Or something of that nature...because if you did no ones going to fix that under warranty because it wasn't a defect with the engine....No manufacturer would honor their engine warranty if something like that occured...or was that what the service rep guessed u did?

The service rep suspects it happening. The service rep put it on a computer??? and this is what the computer said. That the RPM's were to high. This car is not abused. I have always been a big fan of Toyota's. If this gets fixed, we are turning around and selling it. We have three toyota's now and none of them work. We also have a 98 Camry with 89,000 that just blew a transmission. This is unheard of in a Toyota. Well Toyota is not helping at all with this problem either. I realize it is out of warranty but I thought they might stand behind their cars and help me out on this. No such luck. I am really upset with Toyota at this point.
