60K Service - Nissan Trying to Charge For What they state is included

I’m having my 60K service done at the dealer and just got a call that my Engine drive belts are cracked and need replacing at the additional cost of 89.95.

Before I brought my car in I checked Nissan’s site for the work that’s done as part of the service and it clearly states that on the Drive Belt line that they are to be replaced {R} http://www.nissanusa.com/form/0,,act...-51041,00.html

The mechanic tried to tell me that it was an error in the list and that Nissan hasn’t corrected it yet and was going to check with the Manager to see if they would honor what was listed by Nissan.

I’m already coughing up $470 for the service and since it’s listed as part of the service I’m going to hold my ground and see what they come back with.

Just thought I’d let people know -

it's bullshit. It is mostly checking things (fluids, brakes, etc.) that they don't even bother checking.

The belts should also have been replaced. Personally if I were in your situation, I would put a stop payment and have the credit card company deal with it. (AMEX will fight it).

Brakes!!!

Do not let them change the brakes!! Get yourself some high quality pads and have a service station put them on or do it yourself. They will overcharge you for the pads. Try eurobraketech.com and ask for david, they sell Rofren pads which I have found to be the best for the Maxima.

I would tell you to stop the service altogether anyway..Most of what they do in that service you can do yourself or have a local repair shop do for alot cheaper than the dealer. Nissan is the most overpriced of Japanese cars, it really baffles me.

What is some of the other stuff they incllude in a 60,000 mile service. I am curious to know the bologna they tell you you will need.

Their services are designed to make them (Nissan Service Dept.) money...

Nothing more, nothing less. Do the work yourself and save several hundred dollars.
