Question Tamiya Quick Drive

Hi guys i would just like some info on the tamiya quick drives as i would like to buy my son the 2003 subaru. I did a search and looked about the forum a bit but could not find much info. It will be his first real rc car he is 13 so i dont need the fastest most expensive car you can buy, we have mucked about with cheap ones and feel this should be the next step up as i cant afford heaps anyway. I build tamiya models and trust their quality but would like to know how fast the QD's go and for how long and battery charge times etc, just the usual info before i part with the dollars. Regards Bob.

The Tamiya QD is a great very first RC car, kind of like the Nikko cars in the toy stores... They sell for a little over $110, and they come with everything you need to make them run. I saw some kids racing them at my lhs, they go about 15 miles per hour and the battery lasts about 25 minutes due to the tiny motor. They're not as exciting as a 1/10 scale car though--- but for the price, they can't be beat.

The quick drive does look pretty nicely designed, but may I suggest saving up for a little while longer and getting a 1/10th scale? I bought my TL-01 for $350 (Australian) which included the kit, radio, charger a battery and pretty much everything needed to run. There was a cheaper kit, and a more expensive (obviously). The reason I suggest a 1/10 scale is because they have more things to do on them, and can be taken more places.

Of course the choice is up to you, because I don't really know where you would be using it, and how it will be used.

Those are not bad vehicles, but I would suggest somethign else as a first vehicle. My personal suggestion would be a stampede RTR, its a 1/10 2wd truck, its kinda of a mini monster truck. I think they can be had for around $200, but i may be mistaken. That includes everying but a charger and battery. It will be faster than the QD's, and would be much more verstile as to where it can be driven. The battery wont last as long, and im not sure if they come with a mechincal speed control or an electronic one, i think the standard is electronic now, but again, i may be mistaken.
