Talking Blower motor

We were driving and smelled something like burning wires and then our AC stopped blowing. Our heat and defrost wont blow either so I figured it was the blower motor. I got one but cannot find where it is installed on this 1996 Mercury villager. Anyone know.
Thanks a lot !

What kind of ac/heater system do you have? If its automatic and the problem is just that the blower doesn't blow then what probably it is , is a small module unit located under the passenger side dash, its called the a/c blower motor speed control unit....costs under $100...

BTW, if its not auto climate then its a blower motor resisitor...sits right next to the blower motor under passenger dash...you can get to it if your can slip yourself under the dash and look up...

Re: Blower motor

I seem to be having the same problem with my 1997 Villager. Over the summer it was that the rear a/c went out...got the information to resoder the board and it worked great...just in time for winter! Recently the heater started becoming very tempermental. If I turned it off and on enough I could get some warm air to blow...followed by cold air. At first happened mostly when I was idiling, now it does not matter. Then last night I could not get the front windshield to defrost. At first rolling down the windows (30 degrees outside) did the trick for about three blocks and then the whole window fogged up to where I could barley see the road. My van is not auto climate so should I also check my blower motor resistor and relay? Or is it possible that the problem might be air in the lines? The van got very hot (come to think of it these problems started not too long after that) and I had run out of coolant so had to use water. (Van has only gotten really hot two times...first time coolant the last time mostly water). THANKS!!

Yes , it sounds like you have air in the system....if you had a problem with the relay or resistor..the blower would either not work or blow at only 1 or 2 speeds...

Angry Re: Re: Re: Blower motor

eltigre

I posted that problem back in October. Someone on DIY forums helped me.
But I just wanted to say thanks and you were right on target. It was just the motor
that burned out. I got under the dash and replaced it.
Now I have a new problem. Mabey you could help.
The motor ran fine ever since october, but 3 days ago it started making a loud noise, then 2 days after driving listening to a screeching noise it quit, but the motor was still running. I took it out and the damn motor shaft somehow stripped the center hole of the plastic fan wheel so the motor was turning but the fan wasnt. I dont know how this happened, there are little chips of plastic you can see that it stripped it.
Funny thing is, it was the coldest day of the year here in Ohio. I dont have the cash
to goto a dealer or junk yard right now for the stupid plastic wheel fan, and you cant order it through a parts store by the way.
I was wondering if JB bond would work. I know it is a lot of rpms but that shit has to be stronger than the plasic the wheel is made of. Do you think this would work or any ideas? Thanks again

ZOP
Ps any idea on the price of that stupid fan wheel?

Re: Blower motor

the motor shaft should have a few threads at its end if so look for your assembly lock nut....if you can't find it you might have to look for a nut with the same small threads with maybe a washer to clamp it down.......

If in fact it stripped the INSIDE of the wheel ( the inside shaft should be notched) where the motor shaft goes in then, that'll be a bit harder..........you can try to JB weld it but remember, it may work but for a while OR it can work so well that you won't be able to remove the wheel if you had to, to replace it, Depends if you're able to tolerate that cold up there .... your call.......

Re: Blower motor

BTW, the wheel is going to be about $25-30 I believe the part number is 18504

but if you wanted to get it from nissan (the quest is the same car).. then its 27230-0B000.. you can order it from www.nissanparts.cc.....you get a pretty good discount! Hope this helps!

Cool

Thanks man.
The motor shaft does not have threads on it. It is a smooth round shaft with a flat surface on one side. Kinda like a D If you look straight down at it. Same with the wheel fan.
The D shape inside the wheel is now an O shape, from being stripped. LOL, hope that explains it. There was nothing to even lock it on there. It just sliped on.
Well I think your right about not being able to get it off again or not holding at all with a bond. SO I will just have to spend for the part.
I checked nissans site and found it but If you thought it had threads on it, are you sure it is the same thing?
Thanks a lot bro.

Josh

Thumbs up Re: Cool

Oh, and I cant believe they want that much for that part. It looks almost exactly like one of them wheels that a pet hampster uses to exercise in.
LOL, mabey I could just rig one of them on there.

Re: Blower motor

LOL..........
Well it seems you ended up stripping the plastic...yes it's supposed to be that "D" shape so that it can turn in a "locked" position but what I meant by threaded is just the END/TIP of the MOTOR shaft with a FEW threads....
when you place the wheel back on , Does the motor shaft stick out a bit from the top of the center of the wheel? If not, sounds like you stripped the hold down bolt with threads and all...damn, you must've been COLD!

yes for something like that it is expensive....funny thing is, for just under twice that amount you can get the WHOLE unit with a new motor......Remember, the sum of the parts is DEFINITELY greater than the WHOLE! GOOD LUCK!

Re: Re: Blower motor

LOL..
Well I examined it very close under a light and you can see that there never was threads at the very tip of the metal shaft. It is in perfect condition. The only thing that stripped was the plastic hole of the fan.
And yes it was the coldest day so far this year when the heater went out. LOL, Just our luck.
Thanks and Happy New Year bud
Josh

Re: Blower motor

Hey Josh,

You HAVE to find out about that shaft, man....reason being is that if you get a new wheel and have no part of the shaft to screw on the holding nut than you're SOL......
Here's the part number on the holding nut(Nissan):

68191-0B010

and the motor ASSEMBLY(comes with wheel and the whole shabang): if your vehicle is from
09/95-02/96 then its
27220-0B726
if its from 02/96-09/97 then its
27220-1B025

I have a question on a heater blower problem, the fan will work in the morn when I first start the car but after a while it'll stop and won't work again for a while then it'll come back on again. It seems like at first if I hit a bump it would kick on the fan but the last cpl of days it won't come on like that anymore....any ideas??

I don't think its the motor itself as the thing will work when it wants.
