hate to do it, sho vs. B20 LS???
ok, my friend has had a faster car than me ever since we got our licenses, I get a 280z, he gets a supra, I get a teg, he gets a SHO, and so on. I can take him with my bike but that really doesnt count, anyways, heres the question, he is looking at a 93 SHO 5 speed and it has low miles and runs great, I am going to get a srd gen teg non vtec hatch and put in a B20 with 11:1's, CAI/OBX portmatched 4-2-1 headers up to stock exhaust.the SHO is all stock, we are pretty equal drivers although he is a bit better than me, but on my good days I can match his skill. what car should come out on top? and the teg will be a 5 speed as well. I raced him when I had my RS with 120k miles, I/H/E 5 speed and he had a 91 SHO 5 sped with an extra 150 lb passenger and window down halfway and he was about 2 cars ahead of me when I hit 4th gear(so 120 or so) I am only guessing that with the compression bumped from 9:1 to 1:1 and the extra displacement, even not having the exhauist, I should take the race, but just not sure.

In a straight line it should be a good race. My friend's friend has an SHO with an exhaust and dude says he can keep up with Vettes.

As for the orginal question... Is it just a B20 that is going in the hatch, or is it a B20-VTEC? Here's my take: I have ran an exhaust-only/filter SHO before, when I had my 2nd-gen 'Teg with a b16. This was when I had only minimal mods on my car (i/h/e). The SHO, from start to finish was outgunned (my experience). I was ahead by half-a-car at launch (LSD) with the torqueless b16, which increased to almost two cars by third gear. I dunno if he would've pulled back and caught in 4th and fifth (like I said, they have good top-ends), but we never took it that far to find out. Any Civic hatch is a LOT lighter than a 'Teg, even the 2nd-gens. With even a stock B20 (160HP), you should be pulling on him, especially since the 2.0 has quite more TQ than my 1.6 had. I just hope you use an LS tranny to fully utilize your new powerband...any VTEC-based tranny will have you shifting too soon, and too fast, and will be hard to control at launch (too much 1st gear spin).

well, in my old LS all I had cheap ebay SRI, DC ceramic 4-2-1 and some no name brand 2.25" exhaust. it was a 5 speed. the xtra weight on my car was a combat front bumper, a dual 10" ported box, 2 sony 10's and a sony amp. and I didnt have a LSD. his sho was stock as far as we knew. everybody thought it might have had some internal work like mild cams or something juust cuz of how quick it was but if someone tore apart the engine and spent money just for the tiny extra it had over stocks(if any), what a waste of money, which is why I think it was stock. anyways the extra weight he had was a 150 pound kid and then he had a bit of drag from his window being a little over 1/4 the way down. I did spin way too much in first, but he spun a bit too, we both were next to each other spinning. he got bite first and took off but i was right behind, but instead of me catching up, his lead slowly, slowly grew. another friend has one that at the track he got a 15.8 as hist best after a few runs, the clutch slipped on a hard launch, extra fast shift though, so he couldnt get the very MOST out of it. but he also had one before that and when the kid considering this sho test drove it he said it didnt feel as quick as his old one(but everyone knows, feeling faster dont mean crap. unless your saying that vette felt faster than my civic or something like that cuz of course it is.) so I might have had a chance.
anyways he didnt get the sho, ended up with a 95 teg RS sedan 5 speed. pretty quick for a stock 4 door. so for now til i get my teg hes got my headers and intake on there. anyone in WA wanna trade either a 94+GSR or a 94+non vtec with mods for a '01 yamaha R1 in very very good condition, blue lights/windscreen, and helmet w/ 7700 miles on it. for either a good car or some cash I could throw in a medium rocket atomoic jacket, medium tall rocket ballistic 4.0 pants, XL rocket highside gloves. I want to keep my gear besides helmet though cuz I need a car but will soon be able to afford a biike again and FOR SURE will get one. oh yeah, its the blue one.

A SHO will not run with a corvette. A V-6 SHO will run a high 14 low 15 1/4 mile.

Well you can read it on any SHO based site and in magazines like R&T. But my personal expirence in my 93 SHO bone stock with good street tires was a best of 14.9 at New England Dragway in Epping,NH. There is one guy up at that track that runs a 94 consistently at 14.7.
It's same as any car/driver, a ton of variations. A 5.0 Stang should run mid 14's to low low 15's. Most people will see stock 5.0's at that track running 15's and higher. Most 5.0 are up in miles and are def not puttin out the same amount of power as new even if it has been very well taken care off. Just cause your friend runs constant high 15's doesn't mean that is the baseline for all SHO's

What's funny is that your forum name has "Stang" in it. Regardless, it is a pretty funny sig.
