I have a 98 Lumina which hesitates when accelerating hard. This only has happened 5 times in 3 months and it is when I am accelerating hard (entering highway). The engine almost seems like it is going to stall and I just back off the accelerator (and hope no one runs into me).
In addition, the engine has been nice and warm the times it has happened. The Check engine light does not come on for this problem. Since my car has 65k miles on it, I began by replacing the fuel filter which did not solve the problem. Someone suggested I replace the fuel pump but I think I will be wasting my money. Could a bad PCV or EGR cause this symptom? Help! |

Re: 98 Lumina Hesitates on hard acceleration
I do not think that the EGR valve or PCV could have an effect on your situation. I would check the air filter and spark plugs first since they have most effect on this. You might want to clean the throttle plate and behind( T. Intake Cleaner)> helps throttle response. I got a new(universal) catalytic converter on mine today, overall 100$ which improved agility from low rpms a lot. But like the other guy said get it checked> Exhaust Vaccuum Test to see if it is restricted or plugged.
