Unhappy 1985 Caddillac FWD Fleetwood throttle issue

Problem: After acceleration then letting foot off the gas peddle the car continues to slowly accellerate in some cases. The car does not de- celerate on it own. I have to force deceleration by braking.

Also engine seems to idles high until it comes to a complete stop.

Any ideas on what the problem might be and a potential solution.

Rick

Re: 1985 Caddillac FWD Fleetwood throttle issue

Yup, my guess is that your throttle return spring has fallen off or worn out. Its also possible that your cable is sticking. Replacement cables are cheap, as are springs. Junkyard items if you ask me. By the way, if its an 85 Fleetwood, its Rear wheel drive. B-body, probably has either a 307 or 305 V8 right? If so, the spring and cable will be on the driver's side of the Q-jet carb. If its EFI its probably a 5.7 and the same things apply, but look for the stuff on the side of the throttle body.

What you may have going on is that the min idle and tps are out of adjustment. If the car drops it,s speed down to normal below 5 mph then I am sure this is the problem.
