what is a header wrap ? is a good thing or bad?

heat wrap keeps the engine bay cool by in reducing heat from the exhaust manifold. I heard it's good in dry climates.

The point behind header wrap is to cover the header with something that insulates the heat. By keeping the exhaust heat inside header it leads to the exhaust gasses moving faster. This increases scavenging so the exhaust leaves the cylinders faster. Another benefit is by keeping the heat inside the header you are helping to reduce temperatures under the hood

Now, even though this sounds great it is not really the best for street use... the header will not usually last very because of the increased heat

As stated above it keeps the heat in the headers instead of being expelled into the engine bay where if you have a intake your intake will suck in hot air.

I prepped mine like my friend did to his and his headers have not developed any cracks. What you want to make sure is that the wrap is water tight and will not absorb water since water against metal causes corrosion.
