Good question.

This is what I found . . .

How does wrapping headers increase horsepower?
Wrapping the headers maintains exhaust gas heat within the header. This translates into more exhaust flow due to maintaining exhaust temperatures as it flows out of the engine. By improving the scavenging of spent gases, the engine breathes more efficiently. This reduces contamination of gases, thus allowing the engine to develop more power.

my uncle used it in his 944 porshe turbo (4 cyl pushing 450 HP becuase its a big block) and it creates mad heat. he put it on and it runs a little cooler to the touch and he said he thinks the heat that gets into the intake is less so that the car gets a little more power but not much...he likes it becuase it looks nice...until he got an oil leak and it caught on fire...that was funnie

There is stuff to reduce heat, this more like insulation.

This stuff is for an intake tube, but i'm sure you could custom fit on the manifold. They might sell it different ways, i dunno.

another reason is because i was going to get some cheapass 3" intake, since the aem is only 2.5 and cut the carb sticker off the aem and stick it on the other illegal intake... then wrap it so you can only see the sticker and cops wont know its not really an aem.
