Best Year In Your Opinion

Hey guys, i'm new and im quite interested in buying an older mustang. I'm interested in a late 80's mustang (of course 5 liter) and i was wondering what you all thought was the best year. I'm thinking probably and 87, 88 or 89, but am not too sure. I haven't noticed too much of a difference between these years and was wondering if you could help with that. I was also wondering what the difference is between the cobra and the GT. I've been doing my research and haven't been able to find out really what the difference is, so if you could answer those questions, it would be much appreciated. thanks

Ok, ill tell you my opinion and as much as i know.

1 I would get a 93 GT, the reason is, its newer and will probably have a lower milage, besides i like the design of the front lights more then the 80's one has.

2 I thinks the GT and the Cobra have only 25 HP differance (I dont remember why, someone please add the reason).

#1 The Camaro is out, it can't handle the heat of this country.
#2 So much for "The Camaro is out...", I found one which is tuned to handle the heat and its 1995 for 2.5K, its not my final decision though.
#3 Camaro is out, someone bought it before me.
#4 Found a 300ZX 1986 in good condition for 2400, will take it for a check up on thursday.

Re: Re: Best Year In Your Opinion

I'm partial to 89's myself, for a number of personal reasons.
You won't find a Cobra in the years you specified. Closest thing will be the 93 Cobra, or Cobra R models. The Cobra's differs from a normal GT as follows. Cobra intake manifold, GT40 iron heads, 70mm throttle body, 65mm MAF meter, different cam, smaller crank and water pump pulleys, larger injectors, 4-wheel disk brakes, body enhancements, plus a lot more that I can't remember off hand.
87-92 5.0=225 hp
93 5.0=205 hp (re-rated)
93 Cobra= 235 hp

I prefer the 95 myself...

Stylish and sexy with pushrod powa!

But my fav is a 98, black on black with gunmetal rims.

Oh yeay!

Ummmm I'm gonna have to say F-body is a coined Chevy owner word. Just type out Fox it won't kill you I promise
I would get a Fox with MAF so you don't have to do the conversion. Second I wowuld get one pre-airbag cause not having tilt steering wheel is annoying. So thats means you would be looking for a 89-90 Stang I believe. Some1 correct me if I wrong.

i believe 91 also did not have airbags. whatever you do though slick_5.0, you want to stay away from the 86 - 88 years like GTstang said because they did not come with the mass air off the line. so instead on converting over, try to find one with it first.

Re: Best Year In Your Opinion

1990 was the first year for air bags and shoulder belts.

.....Are you sure that there aren't Cobra's in the late 80's? I've seen lots in the classifieds and my friend has an 88 cobra. I'm sure you know much more than i do about Mustang's, but I'm just a little confused right now cause i've seen a supposed "88 cobra". Thanks

Fox Cobras were only made in 93. But isn't there something about in Canada they called GTs Cobras or something? I think it was talked about in this forum but I forget.
