Question Jdm Swap

I have a 00 EX right now but i wanna swap in a b16b or a b16a2. Which one would you rather put in? Also for CALIFORNIA emissions, i have to have a 00 or newer engine..right?? Can it be JDM or does it have to be USDM....How much do you think it would cost to have a complete swap installed?

Re: Jdm Swap

USDM, because if you take it to a smog place that knows their shit than the jdm numbers wont pass. If I were you I'd put the b16a2 instead of the b16b jus because of price. The b16a2 is good engine and has lots of options for it and it will only cost you about 3600 for engine and install. Thats what my shop has offered me for that engine and the usdm b16b costs 4000 just for the engine, probably another 1000 for install. b16a2 is good engine for your car. Don't need to pay an extra 1000 for an engine that only comes with a lil more hp and a higher compression ratio which you'll probably end up lowering anyway when you want to bolt on a turbo.

look for a USDM B16A2. Yea, if you got the cash tho, look for a B18C1 or a B18c5.

Correct me if i'm wrong isn'T b16a2 OBD1???

Your car being OBD2, your options are B16b civic type-r, b18c teg type-r, b16a third gen...
Here in Canada, all the JDM swaps that i know of that went to inspection came out clean ( muffler too loud, clear lights etc... no engine related weak points )

Well yes and no. Jdm b16a2 have both obd 1 and obd2 . For USDM theres only obd2 b16a2 motor. The only obd1 USDM b16 motor is the b16a3 from the del sol.

and the usdm b16b costs 4000 just for the engine
There is no USDM B16B, it came in the CTR, which wasn't availible in the states.

Yes they will, as long as the engine falls into teh same OBD, and has all the US legal smog equipment. There are MANY people running fully legal, smogged, BAR JDM motors.
