I know I have asked this multiple times, but what is the cleanest, for the price of about 200 dollars amp that I can get to push 600 watts RMS at 4 ohms to my single voice coil subwoofer?

My option right now is a8002t

an SQ sub amp ....... now that's an oxymoron. The ONLY thing that matters is the power rating (and not buying to cheesy of a brand). The only real quality in an amp shows up as dependability, not in the sound - especially for a bass amp

Re: SQ amplifier

look at Avionixx and JBL, they're both pretty reliable, powerful amps for not much money

why? because there are no specs that categorizes amps. does the amount of power it puts out put it as an SPL or SQ amp? does the octave of the crossover make it an SPL or SQ amp? or what about the class amplification?

same with subwoofers. no specs that shows if its an "SQ", "SPL", or "SQL" driver. subwoofers all do the same thing. displaces air. thats their function. some have less distortion than others while having more inductance. some has high distortion but low inductance. hell..one can have high a flat KMS curve while having such a parabolic BL curve (idmax). or it can be the exact opposite. and nothing a T/S parameter will show how the sub will perform or what it really does.

and before anyone says "its a SQ driver because i heard it and it sounds good". sounding good in subjective while Sound Quality is objective. big difference. tonality, distortion, etc makes up Sound quality. a friend of mine might think the MTX 4000 is the best sounding woofer to him, but that doesn't mean its a SQ driver. it shows that he prefers the distortion that the MTX sub puts out. not everyone likes accurate bass. some likes the overhang sound while others like underhung.

which leads me to definition. define SQ and SPL. what makes a subwoofer a SQ driver as opposed to "SPL"?

bottom line: no such thing as SQ or SPL sub. its also saying which car is quick. does it have to run under a certain amount of time on the 1/4th to qualify as a fast car? or does it have to run under X time on a racing track? what if it qualifies under the 1/4th but fails on the track? is it still a fast car?

one can drive in a porsche 911 turbo and then drive an Acura TL type S and say "damn this car is slow!". or a person can go from a Toyota Corolla to an Acura TL type S and say "holy shiz this car is fast!!"

some cars are faster than others, just like how some subwoofers have less distortion than others.

Re: SQ amplifier

What would be the cheapest amp that will have good accurate bass than, cause I know a boss amp like I have does not sound like an MTX(not what I want), audiobahn(possibly), JBL, or even pheonix gold.

the problem with the boss amp is the low-quality crossovers. thats what makes it not sound good to you. as long as u get an amp that is has quality to it then u should be fine. PG, Directed, Orion, avionixx, tsunami, etc are all dependable amps.

accurate bass is more dependent on the subwoofer than the amp. all amps nowadays have dampeng factors good enough so its not an issue. i had a profile amp and it basically sounded the same as my directed. only difference was that i got more features and more output with the DEI.

one guy on CAF went from Arc audio i believe to Brax and he said honestly it isn't any different except for the craftsmanship, quality, etc.

not all amp may sound the same to you though. but in a car environment, you're dealing with road noise and such that u probably wouldn't be able to notice. speakers are the most single important equipment in your system. next comes whatever else. lol.

Re: SQ amplifier

So... how well do the ratings on an audiobahn subwoofer for it's RMS compare to the Profile amplifier RMS? are the RMS ratings on either, over or underrated? Would A CA800 or CA1200 be better for producing 600-800 watts RMS for my one 15" audiobahn? I have 2 so I need 2 amplifiers or would prefer to use 2 amplifiers. Also which series is better, Clarius or California for the profile amps?

most of the things that make a good SPL sub are the same things that make it a good "SQ" sub. High power handling, long excursion, low cone mass, etc ... the real engineering feat is balancing all of the components at a reasonable price. As for amps, the lower priced equipment uses lower quality parts, so there reliabilty is less. And often times, the power listed on the box or side of the amp is wishful thinking at best.
