Starting A Buissness????? Got Input?????

well, im getting to the point where i need todo something with my life so i thought about starting my own buissness, i have always been thinking about since my freshman year of high school and had lots of idea, but now im at the point that i really want to, but what should i do, so i thought, "hey why not see what the kids on AF have to say" so here i am, i have thought alot about a record company, a auto shop that builds cars, or just a cheap auto repair shop. i have also thought i doing some sort of thing with something with computers or something, or even something where i track down cars for people like find them or find companys that find cars for import and what not. does anyone out there have any advice of ideas, anything ideas would be grate and i would be very thankfull. please dont say anything dumb like a pimp or a drug lord. be real

I suggest doing one of your ideas and hiring a bunch of us high schoolers that are dieing in Physics and Pre calc and just want to get out of school and giving us a full time good paying jobs.

I'm also trying to figure out what I want to do with my life, career wise. However I am still in highschool, so I've still got a couple of years before I have to really think about it. So I really can't offer you any advice other than do what you want to do, don't get to far into a job you hate.

Kids? Ok youngster. If you want to open your own business then after you figure out what you want to do then you better be able to write up a business plan to make it happen. To many people think that they can just start “doing something” and make money at it. There better be a plan if you expect a bank to front some money. There better be a tax attorney lined up so you don’t lose shit loads of money by not doing your financing properly (both personal and business – the IRS will be auditing you). You better be damn good at what you do or have an angle nobody else thought of if you intend to get/keep customers. Advertise advertise advertise.

Most businesses fail because of two things; poor management and lack of planning (usually by the management). Don’t set yourself up for failure out of the gate.

This is kind of negative, but I'm serious. Move out of California. Don't bother coming here to WA state, the situation is just as bad.

Taxes and regulation are two strikes against you on a business start-up. One of the best states to start a business in, is Idaho. From what I've heard. I looked at starting a business on the side, in case my job evaporates. But here in the not-so-great Socialist State of Washington, the paperwork alone will kill you: An Lord have mercy if you hire an employee!

The gov't actually discourages enterepeneurs. I watched a guy here in my home town: He bought out the owner of a repair business and spun off the radiator and A/C shop as another business. Two small businesses that specialize, instead of one large repair facility that did everything in general. He had a great reputation.

He also got harassed out of existence with all the insurance, bonding, worker's comp, blah blah crap that he had to put up with from the local taxing districts. Two businesses meant the damn gov't got to double-dip into his pocket!

the idea is, you can start a business whenever...so I always think you should go get yourself employed somewhere to get some experience before you start your own thing.

If you're seriously thinking about autoshop, then maybe you should start by doing either PT or FT at one, and see what else is involved besides touching cars all day.

Also, as mentioned, capital is very important. Most small businesses fail within the first two years, because they don't have enough money to see it through and provide the proper marketing strategies. The people you hire is also crucial to your success, afterall, you can't run everything by yourself.

Hope that helps, and best of luck to you...either way, make sure you get some sort of education degree, just so you'll have something to fall back on if you do decide that entrepeuralship just isn't for you.

well i have been thinking of moving to colorado, its cheap to live there and everyhting is cheap there and my friend who lives there said the wage is the same there as it is here $6.75, but im sure i could get a better paying job there. well i will have a degree to fall back on, right now i can be a food health inspector, and by the end of this school year i should have my A.S and a certificate in automotive im also a certified teatchers aid for automotive
