trying to figure out a name of a part

I need to replace my "electronic spark timing"...rather its throwing errors.

i took the distributor cap off and the rotator cap off and the coil looking thing under the rotator cup was all rusted. i was wondering what this part is called and how much does it usually run?

thanks
Jeff

Re: trying to figure out a name of a part

It's not the rotor. what you are most likly looking at is Ignition controle modual (icm) or the pickup coil, the icm has two sets of wires going to it while the pickup coil has one set comming off of it.

Re: trying to figure out a name of a part

You said the coil-looking thing, that is the pickup coil w\ one set of wires, the ignition module is black or grey & rectangular, has the 2 sets of wires plugged into it.

The pickups are usually available at local parts stores, I think for about $10 give or take ...My question is, are you sure thats whats tripping a code ?
