need help with speeding ticket

ok...yes im 16..and yes im young and stupid..my dad has established that with me already...but yesterday i got a ticket for goin 65 in a 35 mph Zone.. I live in california and im wondering how much the ticket is goin to cost... im not to worried about insurance cause im going to go to driving school and get it taken off my record...the ticket price is what im worried about..

so please help me out here in any way you can..

also im thinking about fighting the ticket, because the cop was stopped talking to another car, he didnt have radar on me and he wasnt following me so he was pretty much just estimating my speed. so thats my story of what happened yesterday... HELP! ...

From what I understand, in CA is perfectly legit and legal for the cop to estimate your speed based on the speed other traffic is travelling.
If I am right, you have no grounds to contest it based on that.

although it might be legal for them to do that.. i was only on a 2 lane road and there were no cars in sight... just me. no one coming towards me, no one infront of me and no one behind me, therefore a cop couldnt base my speed off of how fast i was passing traffic.

so do u still think that if i go to court i would lose?

I think your only chance of winning is if you take it to court and the officer doesn't arrive, otherwise you're paying.

Think about this before you go to court. Who will they believe more? the cop, or a 16 year old who was speeding?

It's not worth it going to court, just pay the ticket. Your just wasting tax dollars by taking it to court. You may win, but i'm thinking you'll loose.

Also, you said you were doing 65 in a 35? or somewhere around there. Even if he there isn't traffic around. The cop can still estimate your speed. The cop's job at times is to catch speeders, drive around a lot and sit on the road watching cars go by (among other things). After spending a while watching cars, he should very easily be able to tell when your speeding. Now about the 65, isn't that near what you do on the highway/expressway/whatever? if it is, he's probably logged time sitting there watching cars go by. Now, when he see's you go zipping on by, he should be able to tell that your going faster and near freeway speed, because thats how the cars zip by him on the highway.

I've been driving for like a year and a half and i can already tell when people are doing 10kph over the speed limit or more. I can even estimate pretty darn close to what they are actually doing. Now imagine someone who sits on the round for countless hours watching people go by

Now if you do say "oh, but there was no traffic around, he can't know my speed" Well, he'll probably say "i've spent yada yada years watching traffic, i can accuratly judge peoples speed." Or else he'll outright lie and say there was traffic, inwhich you'd loose

Just take the darn ticket, inless your insurance is going up, or your getting demerit points.

EDIT: The price should be listed on the ticket. Atleast it is here. How about you phone your police department and ask what the price will be?

In Mass. what he said above is the whole basis for allow cops to estimate speed of a car. And it will hold up in court because the accept he's X amount of years as him having the ability to fairly accurately estimate the speed of a car.

Even if you cant win still go because here in CT they will cut down the cost of the ticket if you show up.

35 means its a residential area - the cop should have cut your lisence in half for nearly doubling that speed. It obviously wasn't empty because the cop was around and was able to catch up to someone who was going over 60 mph past him.

Pay your fine and don't do that again.

ACCK! Don't ever just pay the ticket. If you think you're right, fight it. Plus you're under 18, take it to Juvy court and get it reduced. I used to live in CA and I dealt with a couple of tickets, they see so many that they are willing to cut deals to get it over with that you could work something out.
