The Eclipse got 5's all the way across in all reliability categories. That should dispel some rumors.
If you're getting an Eclipse, here's what you should know:
1. Don't get a Spyder, unless you want high insurance and body creaks after time (this happens in almost any convertible)
2. Get a turbocharged model, a GST or GSX. The GS and RS are very slow. I have a '96 GS, it's very pretty, and very reliable, but it is sloooow. I'm currently selling it to get a GSX.
3. Your best bet is a 97-99. They have a stiffer chassis, stronger mounts, and look the best by far.
4. Have a mechanic check for signs of crankwalk if you get a 95-99. It's a problem that exists in certain defective units. Not too common, just check.
