first lets get the cars right..... there is no eclipse spyder 97 gsx..... spyders are convertables and there is no gsx convertable.... gst yes gsx NO

so lets believe you want to stick with a gsx and dont care about getting a tan...

honda civic (any) compared to a eclipse gsx (97 if your stuck on that series) ....... gsx all the way... easy to mod..very efficient (can we say awd launch?)...<---- power and speed

reliability and upkeep.... honda pps will say CRANKWALK and not know wtf they talking about... it happens to VERY few 2g dsms. if you can take care of your care like a normal person and afford 93 octance you should be fine. go search cars.com and autotrader.com and find yourself a stock 2g awd dsm for under 6k and have fun smoking "modded" civics

[my drunk 2 cents worth]

Re: Honda Civic vs Eclipse Spyder '97 GS-X TURBO

agreed go for the GSX. stock for stock a gsx will kill any civic the the mugen Si <--240bhp. but those are like $40,000. so just go with GSX. civics only have 127-140<--si. GSX's 210

Re: Honda Civic vs Eclipse Spyder '97 GS-X TURBO

I am more interested in the GST turbo, not the convertible. Also, the AWD DSM? Is this a Spyder Eclipse?

Thanks for the help.

Re: Honda Civic vs Eclipse Spyder '97 GS-X TURBO

RS = FWD non turbo... no options except sunroof
GS = FWD non turbo... all options
GS spyder = FWD non turbo... all options + convertable
GST spyder = FWD turbo... all options + convertable
GST = FWD turbo... all options
GSX = AWD turbo... all options

talon tsi awd WILL save you money at purchase.. and a little on ins over the gsx... BUT if you total the car the INS company will pay you less for the talon tsi awd than for the gsx... unfortunately I know from first hand xp.

ins per month difference for me was like $60 every 6 months <-- nothing

purchase price difference will be at LEAST $500 <----nice

if you wreck it... difference was for me $1500 from the INS company from the GSX to the awd tsi with the same miles and everything.
