launching GSR

wondering how many rpms you(peeps) are running during stage, and whether or not you pop the clutch or you let off easy.I was at drags last week for the first time, and my launches were killin me.4000 rpm, pop the clutch,BOG.(damn they use some sticky sh!t).then i went 4500 rpm, popped the clutch, smoked em.Last try Iwent 4500, then released easier, my reaction time was 1.2. with .5 sec. light.( I know, I know).that was still my best time though do to quicker engine rev.Ran a 15.3 with Thermal exhaust and no p/s belt.Just need help on the launch.Thx.

P.S. I was releasing as soon as last amber lit up

that's good that you have the lights down. I usually launch at 5500, it grabs at 7900 and i find myself shifting as soon as it grabs. everyone has their own method so get a few more opinions and see what you think.

Why not launch at 3000... tires dont spin, immediate grip, and you still have most of 1st's powerband.

I usually launch around 4200 on bfg g-forces. It's trial and error because everyone's car is different from the modifications to the driver. Good luck.

I was curious if anyone has compared just normal shifting/power shifting to "double clutching". just in case someone doesn't know, a few people I've talked to say that while in a gear, at around like 2-3k rpm below redline push in the clutch with your foot still on the gas, let the rpms jump then release, still in the same gear. People say that it gives them a jump, "like an extra gear" but aren't you losing speed while the clutch is in? It seems weird and harmful. I've never done it, but I was just curious if anyone has noticed a shortened 1/4 mile time by doing it.

it all depends on your tires with my toyo t1-s i launch at 7000 w/20lbs of air(wich holds 44lbs205-55-15) and its peels out and cetches the track at 5500
but with my stock tires if you barely launch hire than you should it wont cetch the road just burns out. With my slicks i launch at 6200 and cetch around 6500-7000.

oh ya and also ive never tried double clutching in first but ive tried in 3rd and it just slows you down. i did it last friday and pushed the clutch in at 7500 and let it rev to 8200 and when i let out the clutch it went back down to 7500! just a waste of time.
mabie it would be a diff story if you had a shit load of horsepower or nos but didnt work for me and my 193hp car.

because the track is a lot stickier than the street. u'll bog down an be much slower than if u had a bit of wheel spin.

that doubling clutching thing doesnt sound right though. wouldnt it be better to go to redline, push clutch in, hold gas steady near redline, shift, and pop the clutch out?

I want some actual proof that double clutching is worth it. Like when they give people sugar pills saying its some serious medicine, and the people start complaining and acting all sick and act like they're dying, then they find out all they took was a sugar pill, and they fell really stupid.... ya know?(just because you think it will make you faster, you might actually think it is making you faster, even if its not.)

One more thing. They were tellin me how its bad to redline with no load. Even though you're in motion, double-clutching will require you to redline with no load in neutral. Isn't that just as bad, not to mention any friction to the clutch which may cause premature wear.
