Quick Question Regarding Tamiya RX-7

Since the search engine seems to bring up results from the whole forum even though I'm trying to search just the one, I'll post this thread instead.

Just got a quick question - could somebody please point me to the RX-7 kit on HLJ which comes with an engine, as I want to use the engine in my RX-8.

Thanks!!!

celsior, Ryan, this is Sebstar from PF :>
I went out and bought the R1 yesterday (was only $25) and the engine detail is pretty damn good!! I don't have a digi-cam, but if you want I can hook up the scanner and see what i can do...

well you build the engine out of lots of components. so you got the left rotor bit, the right, belts and stuff as well... i scanned in the instruction booklet so you can see what it looks like.

and i found it at one of the local hobby shops. it was the last model left so im guessing they priced it at 50% to get rid of it. another hobby store in the city had the same model for $50 as well :\
I guess you gotta be lucky.

Thanks for scanning it

The engine is exactly as I was hoping for it should be easy to drop in to the RX8's engine bay once i fabricate it out of styrene sheeting

The alternator is pretty poor in my opinion... mine is detail with paint because they include a simple circular module and it don't even look like an alternator, so a little work and it's done.

wow, that looks great. im still deciding which colour i want to make it. i thought of using white with a black cloth interior, but I'm not so sure about it.... I guess I'm gonna make it black, which should probably look good as well. white would look different though :>

Martbee that looks great. Should look perfect in the RX-8's engine bay with some chrome bits
Can't wait to get hold of one though it'll be a good 3 weeks or so before I do :\

As long as this car gets finished before the model of the year competition im happy

hey i've been meaning to ask a couple of things, and im sure you would know the answers...

1. do I attach the side mirrors to the model before priming, or after painting?
2. building components such as the engine and undercarriage items (exhaust etc), do I paint them while they are still in the grid (like some people on here do), or do I cut em out, file the moulding lines and fix em up?
3. because the rx7 has an engine, I'll have to spray the engine bay as well. would I prime the undercarriage and the engine bay and then apply the same routine of paint to them as Pman described?
4. Do I prime everything apart from the items that are suppose to be clear? (lights, windows etc)

just some things im unclear about... thanks for the help
-Seb

I usually give them one coat whilst on the grid, and a second when i cut them off. It's really up to you though in the end it doesn't really matter... Same deal with the mirrors really, you can attach them first, or paint them separate but you've gotta sand the paint off where you're gonna glue anyway to get the best bond. IMO, there's no real need to prime the undercarriage and engine unless you're REALLY fussy.. but to me its only really needed on the body itself..
