Remove the spair tire to lose weight ?

I was just wondering if anyone did this to shave some weight. On my Celica if I lose 50 pounds it's 2% of the total weight. Must help acceleration a bit. (?)

to a mathematical power to weight standpoint

removing 100lbs is like adding 10hp.....

to reduce the ratio 10lbs is like 1 hp gain....

so to take out 50lbs of metal would be like adding 5hp, you probably won't be able to feel it, but it does do a little bit of good.

not always smart to remove your spare tire though, to save some weight in that area some people like to use a RX7 jack because it is a lightweight one that is just a couple pounds made of aluminum... there are better ways to reduce weight...

You'll probably get more benefit on an auto-x course than straight line, although it will help. And removing 50 pounds from a light car will make more difference than from, say, a Suburuban. Not having a spare kinda sucks though... You should try to find a light spare and jack. The RX7 jack is super light, and so is the spare if it's the right bolt pattern. It even looks cool. You should also think about weight distribution. Simply removing your spare and back seats will make your car more front heavy than it already is. I removed my spare, but I put the battery in the back to counteract the weight, so it's like I didn't lose any weight on the rear, but from the front. Then I've also got a nitrous bottle in the rear and a CF hood up front to make a little more even distribution.

well. Don't do it if you just want that little bit of extra when you street race. Believe me, if you blow a tire in the middle of, well, anywhere. Your in for a long night.

If your going to the races or auto x course or whatever. Do it. It won't hurt.

yea if your heading to a track rip out that thing and rear seats i dump out my tools and what not everything i can but i keep like 100lbs (adds up quick) of stuff spare jack tools etc for normal driving and rather put up with that little extra weight instead of taking a long walk if i get a blow out or need to do some quick repairs.
