Who does your mods?

Since the age group on this message board is pretty wide, I am curious who does your car mods.

* Do you do your own?
* Do you have a friend do your mods?
* Do you take your car into a shop to have the mods installed?
* Which mods do you, regardless of your talent, have shops do for you?

Finally, for those times that you take your car in, what shops have you found gave you the best service? I'm sure everyone here would love to know.

Quick Note: When I refer to mods, I am not referring to any body work. Everything else is game.

I do most of the work myself except engine work and other things here and there that I do not have tools for. For that, I have some connections or I'll go to some quality local shops for the work. If you live in FL, there's a damn cheap place in Miami called Vertex Automotive that specializes in Porsche/BMW that does very high quality work at ridiculously low prices.... they have cheap cheap quality parts too.

There's a lot of chain shops like Maaco, Aamco, and Meinike that will do a lot of custom stuff you tell them to at cheaper prices

I do all of the work myself, except for paint. I've pulled engines, replaced suspension, brakes, interior and leather work...just about everything. The only things I don't usually do are welding and complicated electrical work (I sometimes give them a shot anyway). It really helps to know how to do all of this...I've saved thousands doing stuff myself

Other than welding up the exhaust I've done all the wrenching on my own.

If I have the tools, I do it. If I don't have the tools then I take it to the dealership or a local performance shop.

I do it all myself, i dont have $$$ to pay someone. I would rather spend that cash on buying more stuff. To date the hardest thing I did was my TECII install. It was kinda difficult, but I loved every minute of it.

I do all of my own work also. One of the first things I learned when I started building/modifying cars was, if you want it done right.... Do it yourself.
Once you get the equipment and tools everything you do pretty much pays for itself. I'd rather buy the tools to do a job then give the money to someone else. At least then I've got something tangible that will allow me to do the job again for a cheaper "cost". Plus once you have the equipment it will pay for itself over time through work done for other people. I've paid for my compressor and spraying equipment many times over by painting cars for people that "will" give me their money.

I second that!

These damn speed shops just don't seem to know shit. Even when you wave $3G's in their face, they seem to put square pegs in round holes.

Speaking as the owner and proprietor of my own speed shop, HEY!! I do know shit. You tell me what you want, I tell you what it's going to cost you. Then I wait for another idiot to walk in and tell me he wants a 300ZX motor in his Honda Civic.

I do all my own work, except for electrical. I am not qualified to do electrical...
