Does your local SCCA club make sure your car is legal?

I dont know if its like this for you other people, but my local region doesnt even back up the rules at all. We got cars in the spec miata class with illegal ECU's, guys with VW rabits in SPO(ours is for 3 liters and up) and all sorts of stuff. About the only things they check is car weight and sound.

Is your local region the same way?

For regionals, I think you'll find that's the same everywhere. I have also seen track width, battery voltage (to check working alternator), and a few other odds and ends checked, but nothing performance related will really be checked unless a protest is filed.

I agree, cheaters suck, but i mean even if you file a protest they dont do squat. I mean there was a miata with a bored motor and everything in spec miata, they didnt do anything.

At regionals all they have man power for is safety stuff. You have to remember that other than the overpaid full time national staff, all SCCA workers are volunteers. The racers are supposed to be self policeing, that is the reason for the impound after the race. Very little protesting occurs because so many people are cheating to some degree.

You filed a written SCCA protest and they didn't do a thing? Where, When? What did you protest exactly.

Re: Does your local SCCA club make sure your car is legal?

Our driver filed a protest, and SCCA just said "No protests right now"

So we just packed and left.

There has to be more to this story that we aren't hearing. If a protest is lodged correctly the engine (or whatever) would be checked for legality. If you are caught cheating the penalties, can be anything from race forfeiture, loss of license, all points lost, etc.

There is more cheating in regional racing due to the fact, seldom are protests lodged and/or the stakes are slight.

However IF a protest is written up with the correct procedures there is an inspection.

Really. I have been around awhile and have never seen a protest ignored. If it truly happened then contact the Divisional Racing Steward or Director.

That's because they are to many racers crying wolf. I ran into the same problem but persisted and got the accused racer for (modified heads) from pole position to the back of the field.
