Unhappy Blown Engine

was told today that my 2000 528i would require a new engine. Quoted price for engine and labor was $11,000.00. Engine blew to over-heating while driving on Interstate. Iwas told today that the guages were working properly, although i never saw any indication there ws an over-heating problem. I guess its possible i missed it but unlikely.

Anyway, I was told it was preventable so warranty will not cover. I am not a car expert so I need help. What other options do I have other than to replace with a new engine.

thanks for your help in advance!

Rick

1. you can push it to work.

2. you can put pedals on it, and pedal it to work.

3. you can park it in your back-yard and use it as an out-house.

4. you could live in it.

5. you could get a rebuilt engine for like maybe half the price.

salvage or rebuilt

A couple of days ago I read a post that had a link to a BMW salvage and engine rebuild place. Prices looked very reasonable but now I can't find it. Does anyone know some good places?

Looks as if you can use a friend. I'd forget about the 2.8 though.
Visit the Conversion specialists at BoykinRacingIntl .
they can help you for under $11K.

Why do you need a new engine? does is not run? makes a bunch of noise? (like big metal pieces are banging around in there) smokes? cranks but does not fire?(run)? I just want to know what they told you. and what proof they have.

i was told the "heads were warped". Again, I'm not a mechanic but when the engine "went" it looked and smelled like the classic "blown engine".

Update: I settled with BMW. We split the cost. I may have been taken but am satisfied with the outcome. They put new engine, new radiator, all new hoses, etc, etc...
