as for the Vr6... u got more power stock sounds crazy... I love driving in the high way so I got me a vr6... there is mods for this car but the cost is high.. ... like I said if u want simple mods..like chip and all that crap.. get the 1.8t |

my advice is 2 wait for the golf 5 and get an r32 verson which should have 300 horsepower, 4wd, and a turbo vr6. from what i hear, there is also gonna b a 250hp turbo vr6 version, a 200hp 1.8 version and some lower output models (ie 150hp, 180, maybe 170, 115, 130). but, 2 answer ur question (i am biased) get a vr6, smoother power delivery, faster if its stock, or go for an r32 version of the golf 4 (238hp, 4 wheel drive-its hot).

If you are buying now here are the options:
VR6 -- 200bhp from the factory. You can add a supercharger for about $5000 and I have seen setups with 400+hp with non-stock internals. 1.8T -- 180bhp from the factory. For about $1000 w/ a new exhaust, dp direct port download or chip, intake, and race n75, you should see about 235bhp, maybe more maybe less. You can go from there with a larger turbo, and fuel upgrades, etc. Overall, for low-moderate gains, the GTI is gonna be much cheaper. If you really want to drop a couple grand though either one has good potential. |

yea, 1.8 T's are a very popular engine in eurotuning, and there are advantages and disadvantages to both. theres alot you can do to the stock turbo to increase power in a 1.8, but as always you get the disadvantages to turbo cars. looking to race the car, (or at least drive it fast), and assuming you want to run the factory turbo, id definitly recomend a bypass valve that can be more reliable than the stock one, which doesent always kick in. Also, if travelling at high RPM's ill recomend a new turbine out of a diffrent material than stock, such as ceramic. downpipes are also helful and there are plenty of companies that offer inlets. vr6 engines, as said before are great for highway driving, due to the 6th gear, and the Naturally Acuired Engine, but parts are more expensive and more scarce for this engine. Either choice you make, your still gettin a volkswagen, and you cant go wrong there.

I've been doing a bit of research on the R32. I just bought my 2003 GTI VR6 and from what I hear the dealership that I was at already ordered 2 of the R32 models. Another note, the R32 does not have 300 horsepower
. Just to clear things up it looks like there isnt going to be a VR6 in the R32, its actually a V6 engine that Vw has designed which I "think" comes from Audi. Not sure if thats true or not. Heres a bit of something I found on the net.3.2 liter V6 engine with 241hp and 236 lbs-ft torque 4 MOTION all wheel drive system 6 speed transmission Sports suspension (lowered 30 MM) 18 inch wheels with 225/40/18 tires Xenon HID lights Body kit (includes large inlet front bumper, side skirts, rear valence and roof wing) Leather interior with brushed aluminum (pedals, cockpit, and gearstick) Sports seats Multifunction display Climatronic climate control system Gamma radio with eight speakers Rear dual exhaust I've been looking around and from what the dealership says, the cost was in the low 30's. Don't quote me on it, but thats what they said. ok and for the last part to try and back up my facts and not make false statements heres another bit of info i found. The Golf-based R32 sports the two-door GTI body, powered by a 241 hp VR6 and uses the VW 4Motion all-wheel-drive system hooked up to a six-speed manual tranny. This is as good as the current platform gets. Out in mid-2003. Base price : $27,995 (estimated) Get a free price quote Engine : V6, DOHC, front engine AWD Displacement : 3,189 cc Valve : 24 valves, 4 valves per cylinder Transmission : 6-spd manual Fuel economy : city - unknown highway - unknown Suspension : F - Independent MacPherson strut R - Independent multilink Brakes : F - Vented discs R - Vented discs Horsepower : 241 hp @ 6250 rpm Torque : 236 lb-ft @ 3000 rpm Redline : 7000 rpm Top speed : 153 mph 0-60 mph : 6.2 sec.(estimated) 0-¼ mile : 14.8 sec @ 94.0 mph 60-0 braking distance : 115 ft 200 ft skidpad : unknown Curb Weight : 3256 lbs Overall length : 163.3 in. Wheelbase : 98.9 in. Overall Width : 68.3 in. Height : 56.9 in. Knowing is half the battle! One last note, has Vw ever had a Vr6 that is turbo? I'm afraid not, so there is no such thing as a Turbo VR6 from factory. |

THIS POST ISN'T DIRECTED TO ANYONE IN PARTICULAR when i was talking about the R32 i meant the Golf V (or "five") not the current generation which is referred to as the golf IV (or "four"). i stated this in my post, but thats okay. i know that the current R32 doesn't have 300 horsepower and i am very familiar with its specs, but if you dont believe me about the info on the up coming golf "five", you can check you the August issue of CAR magazine. the reason why i think the next generation top of the line golf would be called an R32 is because that is what i have seen it referred to in various publications.

In addition, i never stated that past/current generation(s) of the golf have/had a factory turbo VR6. what i did state, was that, according to a respectable car magazine, there is a good possibility of one becoming available in the next generation Golf/GTI. Is this clear to everyone??? on one of my previous posts, i was talking about the next generation golf/gti and i wasn't focusing too deeply on the current generation. i was trying to recommend waiting for the next generation golf/gti before purchasing one, but maybe, if my post was read and not just skimmed, this wouldn't need an explanation.
notice that i did in fact answer the question and not just stray off topic. i recommended an R32 if he was bent on buying a golf/gti/r32 from the current generation and waiting for a next generation model if he wasn't. im restating this because i just want to get my point across. i really hope that this has been cleared up I AM NOT TRYING TO FLAME ON ANYONE. i'M JUST TRYING TO CLEAR UP MY POST.

Uh actually the Touraeg comes with 2 motors, the V6 and the W8 motor. R32 is the designation of the car (4 motion, v6,6 speed, etc, etc) not the engine size. Kinda like how BMW has the M series? and Mercedes Menz has the AMG series, but not really in that sense. Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: vr6 vs 1.8t
Ok so first of all R32 is just model of car from vw that uses the golf chasis. In no way is it a series like the M series of BMW.Also the name VR6 comes from a combination of V engine (German: V-motor), and the German word "Reihenmotor" (meaning "row engine" or straight engine) - and so is described as a "Vee-Row" engine. This engine configuration can also be described as a "staggered six". This is the exact same thing that the R32 is. It stands for"R" Reihenmotor "32" 3.2 liter engine.
