tamiya clear coat question

Is tamiya acrylic clear coat (x-22) a good clear coat? And can this be cleaned from a brush with water like the rest of the tamiya acrylic line?

thanks

I think all Tamiya line of paints/coats is great. I use the clear and glosses extensively and never had any problems!

I used Tamiya's clear on a Subaru WRC car recently and It worked great! just don't spray very heavy coats if you have decals

I don't use Tamiya acrylics so might be completey off track here, but I think you'll need a bit more to clean your airbrush out that just plain water, escecially if the paint dries inside. Maybe water mixed with ammonia or "windex"?

IF you want a smooth surface and high gloss finish, you should not use x-22, its acrilyc not lacquer, and... its hard to get a smoth surface and glossy at the same time, and further, you wouldnt be able to polish it, this paint is really... how is it said...well, not strong, and with the sandpaper you'll run out of clear and you'll sand the paint.
If you still want to use it, you can clean the airbursh with alcohol, pharmacy one, and use and solvent isopropyl alcohol, its much cheaper than tamiya's specific one .

If I were you I'd use what kasso asks if its a clear coat or not, tamiya clear spray can, yes this is the clear coat that you should use, I use duplicolor, its cheapest and comes with more paint, but tamiya is supposed to give a better gloss, but like I still dont get high gloss without a deep polish... its the same but someday I'll get highgloss directly from can!!

I use the Tamiya X22 for almost metalic paint (and beleive me, there's plenty of it on my shell). It work like a charm but it is pretty smooth and soft, which is a big problem to do the trimming around the glasses. It so soft that even after a month of waiting in the closet for drying, I messed up my RX-7 in about 20 minutes when doing those black trimming.

So maybe I'll try a switch for a lacquer next time. It made me pretty discouraged and that's not the first time it happen.

The only solution for that is another clear coat on top of all, but you loose the mat trimming, it's gloss now... like the rest of the body.
