Any of you guys use polyurethane paints for bodywork?
If not the paint what about varnish?

Basically I was thinking about using a Urethane Clearcoat.
Any pros and cons? I know its a lot tougher, thats for sure and it doesn't yellow. But how hard is it to apply. Can it be airbrushed? Can it be applied over Tamiya paints. Does it harm decals? Cheers Farrokh |

No I havent used urethane clearcoat, but I want to give it a try sometime soon. As you said it is toughter, thinner and clearer than anything else. Very nasty stuff healthwise though.
Is there an English version of that link TireGaint? |

Tried this before. The gloss is really incredible, but since I wish to live a longer life, I think I'll settle for Mr Super Clear.

I only use the 3 part clear, urethanes for all my clear coating needs. It dries rock hard, is not humidity dependant, (due to the 3 part nature of a catalyst), will not ever yellow and often dries so glossy that it won't need polishing. Some might say its too glossy. It works well with all decals I have used, mist coating at first. (please test all decals first before saying I said it would work). It is for the advanced modeller though for sure. It is not all that convienent. It is more toxic and requires an air brush. Beyond that the mixing ratios can get complicated and small. If you mix it wrong it will never harden. I have access to glass pipetts (working in a lab) to accurately measure small amounts needed for a painting session. I usually line up a couple of things to clear coat before mixing a batch. Not sure what else you'd like to know...

We'd like to see pics
![]() As for me, I have clearcoated two models with 3-component clear, but both need several more coats, and I've suffered some annoying setbacks
