struts: confirm/correct what ive been told...

I was told that you can tell if struts are bad if when they are off your car and together with the springs if u push down on the strut and it comes back up very slowely, is this true??????????

easiest way to tell if a strut is bad....go to one corner of your car...push down on the car....the car should raise once...go down once and raise one more time and stop....all on its own. if it does the struts are good. hell why would you want to remove the struts to tell if there bad...also look at the tires....feathering of the tires may also lead you to beleive the struts are bad....sometimes not.

Best way to tell is to take it to a suspension specialist and get it up on their machine that simulates bump and rebound - it's also pick stuffed joints etc. It's a free service over here in a lot of places. Otherwise, depress and it should rebound then return to neutral.

If they are off the car like your talkin' & you can compress them, they should return to the same posistion - not fast / not slow - nice smooth stroke

my brother took the struts off the front of his civic, well, they were just compressed. you could pull the smaller piece out of the other piece, it would just fall back in. they were obviously bad
