well my friends '89 firebird w/ a 2.8L v-6 ran mid 16s, so i would imagine low 15's high 14's-"and i base this on absolutely nothing"

i am guessing low 15's because my friend has a 5.0L mustang with 225 rwhp and 3.50:1 gears and he ran a best of 14.8 but his clutch and posi need replacing

so very high 14's or low-mid 15's is what you should expect to run but only if you replace your gears

Check mine.

84 Trans am.
305 v8 80,000 miles.
4 speed automatic

I'm thinking of putting a ls1 or a 383 stoker in there as well.

Unless you've really reduced the weight your car is much more then 3200lbs.

I drive a 68 Firebird curb weighted at 3317lbs I'm 152s and it tips the scales at 3660 with a full tank and all fluids. You're car is curb weighted 3490lbs it is probably around 3700-3800lbs at track.

Do you have a torque convertor on it? That and a gear change would probably help track times more then new heads (for now).

Don't forget to brush up on your launch techniques, I think there is a forum here where you could read up then practice on some highway (Just the launch not the race).

PS Please don't drive through the burnout box unless you're running slicks, you'll track water down the track.

Thats a pretty high curb weight are you sure thats not for a 87 Trans Am 350 TPI with all the premium stuff on it. If your right about the weight I don't really care. What I really wanna know is if you guys suggest any other mods besides gears, heads, and torque convertor. How much would a 3.73 gear kit cost and to install it? Does $1000 to install a set heads seem too much?

Well weight is the easiest way to drop time. 150lbs is 1/10 in the 1/4 mile.

$1000 just to install seems rather high, but I do my own work on my car so I'm not sure the going price. I think you could probably install the heads yourself with a few days and some help. A good Chilton's manual would be a must.

That is a high curb weight, it wasfor a Trans Am, but I actually went light on the guess to counter that for your car. Trans Am was around 3880lbs or so.

Gears:

4.10 Gears here:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2430536032

They seem reasonable but I don't know too much about 3rd gen birds. If I was going to bid I would just do the "Buy Now".

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2430564695

Same speel as above, but ask for a picture without a card in the middle before bidding.

Going 4.10's will definatly increase off the line power a lot and feel really nice. So unless you like to fly down the highway at 140mph its probably fine. Remember with OD it'll be like 2.87 rear gear which will probably still hit 140mph wound right out. (I can do 130mph with a 3.23 68 350).

I wish gears were that cheap for my car lol. (I need a full carrier/posi/gears just to go to 3.36+)
