Gas Tank Replacement Affects Accelerator Pedal?
I have a '95 Buick Skylark with a V-6 engine and 44,000 miles. I just had my gastank replaced at a shop, because it'd started leaking. Now that I've got the car back, though, the accelerator pedal is at least an inch lower than the brake, and I really have to stretch my leg to press it. I'm not even sure I can press it down all the way without hitting the floor. I'm pretty sure it didn't use to be that way, because I think the accelerator and brake pedals were pretty even before I had the work done on the car. The accelerator pedal seems pretty loose now, also, although I don't know for certain if it was like that before I had the gas tank replaced.
So, any ideas if anything that's done as part of replacing a gastank that could affect the accelerator pedal like this? |

Re: Gas Tank Replacement Affects Accelerator Pedal?
Should have been nothing at all done to the gas pedal. it is only connected to linkage as far as the "throttle body" on your car. The gas tank is for lack of a better way of putting it, independent of the gas pedal, it works with it, but is not mechanically relevant to it.

Re: Gas Tank Replacement Affects Accelerator Pedal?
As pro_am stated, the Gas pedal is in no way directly connected to the Tank. The pedal is connected to your car's Throttle Body to the pedal by a metal wire that pulls the Throttle by pulling that wire when you press the pedal.
An easy way for you to find out would be to pop the hood and find your throttle then check for the cable's firmness. If there is any loose or slack, go from there. Either change/tighten yourself or get a mechanic to do it. |
