Alternators
How do they work and how do RPM affect the amps and volts that it puts out?

Its a magnet surrounded by copper wire. When it spins (which is dependent of engine rpm), it produces electricity. They are much more complicated now, but that is the just of it.

The higher the rpm, the more power produced.
So they must be hugely over-built to be able to produce ample power from idle, or they must have some kind of mechanism (gears or something) to adjust the rpms of the magnet. I really dont know
