engine management systems

anyone have any experience with engine management systems? i don't know who to go with or what to get... i'm new to that stuff. I plan on going N/A and i want to be able to control it with my laptop. I saw one from AEM but i don't have 4 figures to spend. am I yet again being a tightwad?

AEM systems are around $1000.

all you should need for N/A Is fuel, air and maybe timing??, plus VTEC controller if you need it. Apexi has a V-AFC, but I don't know about timing, you may only need timing conrol for nitrous and turbo. Does AEM EMS do VTEC?

Plans for it: Rebuild the engine and the car, then turbo it with a disco potato(gt28).
