'91 240sx h-back
Oil leak at the very front of the engine. Looks to be coming out at the crankshaft pulley. If it was a Chevy i would say the front seal is shot. Has anyone ever changed the front seal on a 240sx? Is it as easy as on a Chevy?
Also, it sounds like the timing chain is "clattering" How difficult is that to replace? The car has 171,000 miles. I've owned it since 30,000 miles. It is a great car. Shorty |

it's a great car indeed.
timing chain is going to run you about $400 for labor. the oil seal leak will cost you $200 because they have to (and should) take off and replace the a/c, ps and alternator belts also. and if you get them done at once they'll prolly give you a deal. replacing the oil seal is tough because they have to take off those belts and the crankshaft pulley. if you want to upgrade that too (to an underdrive pulley) that would be a good time to do it because there wouldn't be any other labor costs. i know because i just had mine replaced with pulley, oil seal and belts about a month ago.

Thanks for the reply, I was intending to do the work myself. Just was wondering if anyone else had ever did the job themself. I've rebuilt several Nissan/Datsun engines, just never been into a 240sx engine. I even have a source for parts at wholesale price.
Thanks for your info Shorty |
