Seeking rims & tires

I want to update the look of my '99 Max GLE. It's completely stock with 16" rims. Considering a Stillen lowering kit (springs, shocks and swaybar) combined with 17" rims and lower profile tires. Basically, I want to fill out the wheel well and improve the aesthethics of the ride heigth.

Would appreciate suggestions from other owners who have done the same. How far should I lower the vehicle and still retain comfort and everyday drive-ability (1", 1,5" etc.)? Looking for suggested manufacturer and brand names and/or those to stay away from. Also would be interested to hear from anyone who has parts, rims/tires to sell. well, i would suggest going with 18's if you want to fill in that wheel well. after you drop the car 1.5", with 17's, ur still going to get a gap, as i have found out. i dropped it with Eibachs and 17" Motegi MR7's (that look WAY sweet) in silver, and with lower profile tires (i chose the Yokohama Parada Spec 2's, 225/40/17), the gap kind of opens up again. Not a whole lot, but the wheels still look a bit small for the car. If you want to fill that in, but remain moderate, go with 18's. Otherwise, if you want a more aggressive look, which i'm working on, go 19's with rims that have a deeper offset. But keep in mind, with that, you'll have to mod the wheel wells and fenders/panels to accomodate the bigger size to avoid rubbing. What you should do, is find an experienced performance shop, sit down with them, and talk about your ideas, and they should be able to give you plenty of feedback on what you can or can't do. I did that, and I'll tell you, it was the best move I could've made.

Thanks for the input. I had been under the impression that 18's would be too much of an increase from the stock 16's. So I really hadn't considered them. However, I will now.
