Unfortunetly with the Ls1 there is no really cheap way to get to the 500hp range. The least costly way to get there would be the head and cam route with boltons...
My friend wanted 500hp for his 98 vette this is what he went with.......
longtube headers
intake
ported maf
ported Ls1 heads
Ls6 manifold
hotcam
and a few other goodies... This was good for 432hp 421tq
Now he's running a 125 shot nitrous. 500+ h.p
Total cost about $4500.....

Other then that the only way for that kind of power would be to go with a stroker kit or FI which is $10k plus either way.......

Get your heads ported by MTI or Lingenfelter.

Slap in a 224/224 cam.

Get your PCM reprogrammed by www.fastchip.com

That should put you pretty close to 500hp.

I'd say that the quickest and easiest route would be a supercharger, though the heads/cam route would probably be cheaper.

the Lingenfelter Supercharger package is $9000, i think. That will give you 500HP. check it out at www.lingenfelter.com I've only heard good things about this package. Or get them to do a heads/cam package.

and test/tune.

Of course Nitrous opens pandora's box for other
possible issues. Serious users build out the bottom
end of the motor so it can take it as "m3mark'
suggested.

Increasing the gears like 3.42 is minimum, but plenty
of guys are running 3.73's, 3.90's, and a few 4.10's.
Get a torque converter too.

The problem with the C5 and allot of other cars that
are quite easy to mod...once you start it's hard to quit.

I took my bone-stock vette than ran a best of 13.4 to
12.6 with gears/tc/pcm re-program, and then new tires .

Good Luck with your decision.

Hi Everybody
I have a brand new hypertech for a 2000 corvette which I paid $380 for. If somebody is interested, let me know.
Not only does it add 30 hp, but it has excellent features for tunign the car to your preferences.

-Three-stage power tuning
-Dual fuel tuning
-Engine Rev Limiter(Extends the engine's RPM range for a wider power band)
-Cooling Fan On/Off Temperatures (Cooler engine, more power and longer life)
-Transmission shift points (Optimizes shift points by speed and RPM for maximum acceleration)
-Transmission snhift firmness (Firmer full-throttle gear changes for faster acceleration)
-Top speed adjustor according to tires being used
-Automatically corrects speedometer and odometer readings for non-stock tire sizes and/or non-stock rear-end gear ratios (accurate odometer readings are required by law)

Re: Re: cheapest mods for 2000 corvette?

you want 500rwhp or 500 flywheel? If flywheel 500 is your goal, a h/c can get there w/o getting too wild...if you do the work yourself, plan on 3k +/-

I'd recommend the magnuson s/c though. You can pick one up for about 5k. I'd put it with non-ported LS6 heads (~1k) and a s/c cam. That can get you 500rwhp for under 20k, and still maintain streetability.
