What about a 1989?

I remember someone saying something to the effect that once a car hits 15 years old, it is no longer subject to certain rules when it comes to legalizing

Is this true?

Because if it is, I know of a company that sells 1989 Skyline GS-R's for $8,000 USD with 40-50k miles on them that I would be willing to share

Re: What about a 1989?

Hi, I am jap guys living in japan now.
You opinions is YES!
The car, 15years older is an exception of Canadian laws.
I found a canadian japanese importing company.
see here;
http://www.jns-imports.com/

In this site there is a vehicles for sale page,
There is a HR31 1986 SKYLINE GTS-T...
http://www.jns-imports.com/sale/fors...31_200305.html
Price is $9250 Canadian dollars!!!!!!!!!!
I can imagine that Who are willing to get the car such a amazing
big price!!

If you are looking for j-spec JDM skyline gts,gts-t,
I can be help of you.
If I would export the same HR31 to you,
The price would be under 4.000CAD.Plus shipping and handling
would be 1200CAD.
Of course you shold pay some more costs, tax and modification
fees in your region.
But I never imagine such a highest price!!

I am a honest car and parts broker in japan, and have a liscense
for used car published by local police department, and have some
menberships of japanese auto auctions.

If you are interested in importing j-spec JDM cars,
see this web-site

Re: What about a 1989?

Actually, if he is Canadian, he can drive it in the US all he wants. He just can't live in the US as he will be forced to register it at his place of residence. I suppose he could leave the car registered in a family member's name and drive it in the US, but I imagine that most states are like California that if you live in a state and the car will be primarily driven in that state you will have to register it after a certain time.

So, it seems like he could drive it in the US...for a time. Unlimited if he is in Canada.

well, if he has family in canada, they could register it there, and he could live in the US.
i've got a friend who owns a truck that's registered to his rents in VA, but he lives in ohio.

the rule on canada is that you're allowed to import the cars STARTING from an 89. you aren't allowed to import anything newer... so you can get the 89s now.

in the US, the same rules still apply.
