You'll have ta shove a plug in them so you don't git vacuum leaks.

Due to the Frustration of messing with the old style TPI, I can understand why you may want to switch to a carb. You don't say which state you are from, but I would definitely check on the smog laws in whatever state you live in.
One thing you will have to do is either add a fuel pressure regulator to drop the fuel pressure from the high pressure your pump puts out (around 60-80 psi before the regulator) to the 6-8 your carb will need. You may end up using an external fuel pump with a built in regulator (recommended As far as the vacuum lines go, you will need to find someone with an 86 carb Camaro and take lots of pictures with a good digital camera or get a photocopy from a smog shop if possible. If you are from California, it probably isn't legal to do it at all, but the referee stations will have all the info you will need. Here is a couple of places that may be able to help with your problem. I need to contact them about my TPI problem in my 1985 IROC-Z..... ![]() http://www.fuelinjection.com/ http://www.tpis.com/ |

Re: 305 tpi to a 350 carb switch out 1986 iroc
Hey thanks for the info, I live in Oklahoma we don't have emmissions any more. I am going to put a 350, chevy crate motor, 350hp. I am selling my tpi everything, I basicly have a whole 1986 305 tpi motor i am going to get rid of. why would I need to get a picture of a 1986 carb camarro? what will it matter if I am going to change everything? I had planned on keeping my computer in there and just disconnecting the fuel injection, is there a problem with that besides throwing a check engine light?
thanks for the reply. |

There are lots of problems with that. Luckily you have no smog checks in Oklahoma so that saves you the biggest problems. If you were going to use the 355HP ZZ4 crate motor (same cam I have, your heads arn't as good though), get the whole computer and wiring harness that comes in kit form. I would suggest just dumping the computer all together. You will also need a carb and distributor for that motor besides the mods listed in my first response..... Don't worry about the vacuum lines except those needed for cruise control, winsheild washers, and brakes. You will probably need a bracket for the TV cable to the trans unless you have a stick shift. Keep in mind the rearend isn't going to last with a 350, especially if you have a shift kit in an auto trans.... If you don't have a shift kit in a 700R4 trans, the trans won't last with the 350...... Gee, I'm just lots of fun aren't I????

All of your vaccum lines run off of the motor itself so the crate motor will come with a manifold that has the vaccum outs that you will need (also depending on what carb u use) i did a Fuel Injection to carb motor switch in my T-bird, you will definatly need a fuel pressure regulator i got one from mallory for about 90 bucks. You dont need a comp if you use manual driven gauges so your speedo and tach etc. etc work just and ignition box form MSD or whoever and a coil Just be prepared for a bunch of little things to jump up and bite you in the butt.
