Okay here is the low down

If you want cool bodies meaning more detail then you would want to go with tamiya. having said that you can still use tamiya bodies on the hpi as well but you will have to alter the body post hole meaning there will be another set of holes on the body since tamiya pre drill the hole for their cars. Note Tamiya bodies are usally more expensive then HPI but the detail is so much greater.

Depending on your store both cars should have lots of parts but I think the tamiya would be a little more expensive in poarts then HPI. Hop ups wise if you live in North America then there will be more HPI upgrades then the tamiya but if you live in asia then there would be more tamiya parts.

Since they are both electric the most common upgrade will be the motor and that is very easy to upgrade.

In terms of out of the box I would have to say is the HPI just from reading articles about it.

Price wise they should be close enough depends if there is a sale going on.

i myself have the xray maybe you shold look into a pro car if you going to upgrade.

Personally, I would go for the HPI car, I do own a Tamiya TL-01 and I am saving up for a good HPI or Yokomo car now.

I would suggest doing a bit more research, compare the specs, then make the choice.

it all depends on how long you wanna keep these cars...

i have a HPI Pro... about 5+ yrs old... EVERY hop-up, orig. part is still avail. if i break something.. its usually avail.

i also have a Tamiya TA02.. about 5+ yrs old... almost every hop-up part, orig. part is no longer avail. here in the States..

hope this helps a little
