RAYS engineering in 1/24
i was wondering if anyone knows if these wheels are made in 1/24 scale and if they would fit on a tamiya R34 skylyn kit?
also, how would i go about painting them to get that exact finish? thanks

you can get those wheels out of another tamiya kit like say the raybrig NSX. the NSX wheels will have two large rims out in the rear and two smaller width rims for the front. now for the R34 you may want all 4 rims to be the wide variety depending apon the kit.
what you can do is go to this site.. http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/pla...ies/index.html then click the various cars to view the rims that come with them. if you find the RAYS rims you like you can then call tamiya and order the rims and tires directly from them, just jot down the part# of the kit the wheels are from. as far as painting them, I'll leave that part to someone else who may have a better idea how to go about that. I believe the loctite car would be the most appropriate being that it has RAYS rims and they will be the correct width since they are from a skyline kit heres the loctite http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/pla...ies/24225.html

Regardless, I think it'd be better to go ahead and just get the Fujimi rims since they have decals for "Volk" and "Rays." www.hlj.com is a good source, and they should have them in stock since I just got in a set (1.5wks delivery, btw.). As for that finish.... I'm not sure. They come molded in white. I'm thinking about that now, since I want them that color. I'm thinking about painting them black, then dusting gold over, then coating it with some Tamiya clear orange or something. That's going to take alot of experimenting to get right though. I'd prolly be better off just finding some Testors bronze metalizer or something like that.

The only touble with using the Tamiya ones is they have the central nut not a 5 stud fixing. This is the problem I have on a set on Enkei rims at the moment.

My way you aren't going to get the RAYS decal with the rim, but you will have a better fitting rim that requires no modification and will be stronger

True. I guess it depends on what you want in the end, and how much work you're willing to do. I don't know what the fuss is about converting rims, though. Personally I don't worry much about it. I just trim some of the female part off the Fujimi rim, enough for it to butt up against the Tamiya suspension part. Then I drill out the Tamiya brakes so that I can slip it over the Fujimi rim connecter doo-hicky. Then I take a peice of sprue that slips in where the vinyl nut goes on both the rim and the car, and epoxy it in place, holding on the rim. They don't turn but I don't care. It works, is simple, and looks just fine. But still, using the Tamiya rim is easiest.
And I'm not arguing-- I just enjoy seeing diffent viewpoints and techniques and stuff.
