I've seen 177,000 on a stock auto 99 Max. Do you want info on 5MT or auto?

Well, it depends on which Trans you're talking about:

5spd on 99 & up is an excellent choice and was reported to be slickshifting and basically maintenance free, plus you get better gas mileage and better acceleration than the auto.

Auto on 99 & up-has been good for most and bad for some, I have a 2k and the autotranny went out at about 48k, since then the new one I currently have 137,000 miles on my car and no problems with the auto.

As far as 2k's go, I believe I have the highest mileage of any Maxima in the U.S. I'm not sure about the 99's auto, they're relatively the same and I haven't heard of any tranny failures for 99's.

I think when Nissan upped the hp & torque in the 2k/2k1 they didn't beef up the tranny enough to handle the power and therefore you had quite a few tranny failures as the result. Since 2k1 Nissan published the list of TSB for the failures and I received one of the trannies with the TSB recommended correction and like I said no problems as of yet.
Thank God

Overall I'd say that I'm in a minority as far as auto failures for 2k/2k1's, most of them have no problems and the 5spd & autos have actually seen gains in power/torque and gas mileage over continued use.
